International Horticultural Exposition postponed
The International Horticultural Exposition: Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2011, which was due to open on Wednesday, has been postponed until next month due to the flood crisis hitting the Central region and some parts of Bangkok.
Upatham Nisitsukcharoen, director of the Project Management Office, said people are not in the mood to travel during the floods and that would affect the international flora expo to be hosted in Chiang Mai's Muang district.
Although the floods have submerged about 30 provinces in the Central region, various parts of the country including well-known tourist destinations such as Phuket, Samui, Koh Chang and Chiang Mai have so far been spared. Travel by road from Bangkok or from other provinces to the north is still possible although journeys would take longer than normal, while train services were resumed last week although only running twice a day _ from Bangkok to Chiang Mai at 8:30am and 6:10pm.
"After the crisis has completely disappeared, this event will help generate more income to the tourism industry and ultimately benefit the country as a whole," Upatham said.
Since the event was promoted from the beginning of October, about 150,000 tickets have been sold. The target is three million visitors.
Those who want to change the entry dates of their visit to the expo can contact the counters where they bought the tickets, said Kampol Nisitsukcharoen, Head of General Administration of the event. Tickets are priced 200 baht for an adult and 100 baht for children, the disabled and the elderly. For unlimited entry, a ticket for an adult is 800 baht and 400 baht for a child. Ticket prices for a group of at least 10 people is 150 baht each.
Tickets with a 50% discount are available at 1,000 branches Krung Thai Bank and 150 outlets of Thai Ticket Major, until December 13.
